External Dynamic Lists - Curation & Hosting Service
External Dynamic Lists or EDL's are used by firewalls and some SAAS solutions to deploy dynamic content in a control or security policy.
Some are also used to provide a filter list for DNS or other filtering.
These are usually IP address Lists, URL's and Domain names, but some firewalls support other options as well.
They typically contain information that the firewall cannot generate itself, this typically requires individual processing and formatting for self hosting, these are also often used where firewall DNS lookups are too slow or where large static user defined lists are problematic because they require frequent updating, which takes time and resources and ongoing maintenance.
EDLs can be used to facilitate granular rule controls for cloud or other services, increasingly common in a ZTNA environment.
We optimise the IP address / domain / URL information received from SaaS application providers and other sources in order to reduce the number of IP addresses that are published in each EDL and to make the URL and Domain wildcarding work for specific firewall vendors, who mostly have differing support for wildcards.
This optimisation includes removing duplicate IP addresses and aggregating the remaining IP addresses into a smaller number of contiguous address ranges.
Our EDL API contains a number of HTTP parameters you may customise in the request configuration on the firewall to further optimise EDLs and to choose the best firewall match for you environment.
In some cases the API takes multiple parameters, for example to aggregate a users chosen list of ASN's into one EDL.
